An Iranian Air Force fighter jet crashed during a nighttime military training exercise in the province of Hamadan, in western Iran, leaving one pilot dead.
The aircraft was carrying two military personnel, and the second survived without injuries. According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the causes of the crash are still under investigation. The incident comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington.
In recent days, Iran has stepped up its military activities, including naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz and plans for a joint operation with Russia. At the same time, US President Donald Trump stated that within ten days there should be a decision on a possible military action against the country. The statement was made during a Peace Council meeting in Washington and was accompanied by renewed pressure for Tehran to move forward with an agreement.
The US has reinforced its military presence in the Middle East by deploying additional equipment and forces, including the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford, considered one of the most modern in the American fleet. Refueling aircraft and fighter jets have also been moved to the region. At the same time, the White House is seeking to expand negotiations to include Iran’s missile program, while Iran remains willing to discuss only limitations on its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Amid talks mediated by Oman and held in Switzerland, satellite images indicate that Tehran may be reinforcing nuclear facilities with concrete and layers of earth. The Iranian government reaffirmed that it does not intend to abandon uranium enrichment and threatened to attack US bases in the region if it comes under an offensive. The country’s supreme leader also warned that US naval forces could become targets in the event of an escalation of the conflict, further heightening uncertainty on the international stage.
